Galatasaray snatch Turkish title
Galatasaray are Turkish champions for the 16th time after pipping Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce with a late run.
On the final day, Galatasaray beat Kayserispor 3-0 to reach 83 points thanks to two goals from midfielder Sabri Sarioglu and one from Sasa Ilic.
Fenerbahce needed to beat Denizlispor to seal a third straight title but drew 1-1, leaving them second on 81 points.
Veteran Galatasaray striker Hakan Sukur said: "We worked so hard for this. I prayed so much and I'm very happy now."
Galatasaray's Belgian coach Eric Gerets led the team to the title with just three defeats - two against Fenerbahce.
Leading scorer Necati Ates with 18 goals and Umit Karan with 17 provided the main fire-power during the title chase.
Heavily in debt, Galatasaray had spent much of the season under a cloud with local media reporting that players were boycotting training because of months of unpaid wages.
