FC Brussels bans Sierra Leonean
Sierra Leone's Sydney Kargbo has been suspended until 31 December by his Belgian club FC Brussels because of a career-threatening foul on an opponent.
Kargbo's tackle happened during Brussels' 3-1 loss to Kortrijk on Sunday in the Belgian Cup.
The defender lunged forward at full speed with both feet toward the legs of Jimmy Hempte and immediately was sent off with a red card.
Hempte was able to continue but was replaced in extra time.
The club's sporting manager Dimitri Mbuyu said: \"It was a very bad tackle. The President (of FC Brussels) was at the game and he saw what he saw; an act of aggression.\"
\"Football players have to show fair play, but with an aggression like that it is not possible.\"
Mbuyu added that Kargbo will not be leaving the club.
\"He has a future (at FC Brussels), of course. I've told him, he made a mistake but we will protect him and he will be back.\"
\"The player is disappointed in himself. He doesn't understand what happened in those two or three seconds.\"
\"I'm happy Hepte survived the horrible attack,\" Brussels chairman Johan Veremeersch said.
\"I want to use his suspension as an example. This should not happen on a soccer pitch.\"
He also called on other clubs to take similar action if their players commit a vicious foul.
