QPR boss Iain Dowie is planning to hijack Middlesbrough's move for his old pal Andy Johnson.
Dowie, who was AJ's manager at Crystal Palace, is desperate to rekindle his partnership with the Everton striker.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce also wants to nab the eight-cap frontman and a call from the Latics would mean Johnson would not have to up sticks. The player has also been linked with West Ham.
However, it is unsure whether Johnson would accept a move to the Championship.
Johnson is thought to be valued at around £8million pounds.
