English sides set Intertoto fate
England's successful Intertoto Cup applicant looks likely to play off against Norwegian outfit Lillestrom in a bid to qualify for the Uefa Cup. The draw for the pre-season tournament paired England's representative with Lillestrom, Iceland's IBK Keflavik or a yet-to-be-named Northern Irish side. Everton, Blackburn and Middlesbrough are among seven English clubs to apply. The highest-placed applicant in the Premiership that has not qualified for the Uefa Cup will join in round three. Those ties will take place on 15/16 and 22 July. Although an all-British tie is possible should the Northern Ireland side who finish fourth in their domestic league, currently Dungannon, make their way through to round three, Lillestrom are far more likely opponents. Elsewhere, Scotland's representatives, likely to be Hibernian, will tackle Dinaburg Daugavpils in the second round, providing the Latvians come through a first round meeting with HB Torshavn. Victory in that will secure a final meeting with either OB Odense from Denmark, Lithuania's Vetra Vilnius or Shelbourne of the Republic of Ireland. Welshpool and Rhyl are battling it out to take Wales' position, and whoever does so will face a first-round meeting with Finland's Tampere United. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intertoto Cup draw (selected ties, teams in brackets already qualified) First round: Lithuania (Vetra Vilnius) v Republic of Ireland (Shelbourne) Finland (Tampere United) v Wales Iceland (IBK Keflavik) v Northern Ireland Ties to be played June 17 and 24 Second round: Scotland v Latvia (Dinaburg Daugavpils) or Faroe Islands (HB Torshavn) Norway (Lillestrom) v Iceland or Northern Ireland Finland or Wales v Estonia or Sweden (Kalmar) Denmark (OB Odense) v Lithuania or Republic of Ireland Ties to be played July 1 and July 8 Third round: England v Norway, Iceland or Northern Ireland Scotland, Latvia or Faroe Islands v Denmark, Lithuania or Republic of Ireland Finland, Wales, Estonia or Sweden v Netherlands Ties to be played July 15 and July 22
