England beaten in China opener
England were beaten 2-0 by hosts China in the Four Nations Tournament in the Guangdong Olympic Stadium. Zhang Ying opened the scoring inside five minutes when she dispossessed Alex Scott before firing home a low 25-yard drive which beat England stand-in goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain. Han Duan had an effort ruled out for a foul as China took control against an out-of-sorts England side. It was 2-0 when Duan headed home after a corner from Shi Mengyu. England coach Hope Powell made changes at the interval and although the visitors improved in the second half, China were never in serious danger of letting their lead slip.
