Doherty deal not close - Wycombe
Wycombe manager Paul Lambert admits he is a long way from agreeing a deal to land QPR midfielder Tommy Doherty on a permanent basis.
Northern Ireland international Doherty was named player of the year at Adams Park this season after a successful loan spell and Lambert is eager to keep hold of the 28-year-old.
"I'd love to have him back but it's not that simple," Lambert told the club's official website.
"Tommy still has a year to go on his Loftus Road contract. You have to remember that QPR are a Championship club with a much bigger players' budget than ours. He's an international with years of experience, a terrific player, and that's reflected in his wages.
"Tommy absolutely loved being with us and I know he'd come back if it was possible - the ball is in QPR's court.
"There are plenty of other clubs interested if John Gregory lets him go and some of them could pay more money. But it's not all about money."
