Defender bid thrown out
Watford have failed with an ?embarrassing' bid to sign QPR defender Danny Shittu according to the Hoops chairman Gianni Paladini. Adrian Boothroyd has made strengthening his defence his top priority and is keen to bolster his back line with at least two new faces. Shittu has been earmarked as a possibility and now QPR have confirmed a bid has gone in. The undisclosed offer is well below their valuation though and R's chairman Gianni Paladini has thrown it out. "I respect what Watford have done - they brought in the right players without paying a fortune, now they're in the Premiership," Paladini revealed. "But their offer for Danny was a ridiculous one - I felt it was embarrassing. "I told them we want £3m and then another £500,000 if they stay up and we won't take less than the asking price. "Danny's under contract - he knows the situation and he knows we are building a team. He's one of our most important players and we want to keep those players at the club."
