De Canio has big ambitions
Queens Park Rangers manager Luigi De Canio has ambitions of taking the club into Europe.
The Italian was brought in to replace the axed John Gregory at Loftus Road in October 2007 and has led the side off the bottom of the table and into the safety of mid-table.
However, with Formula One moguls Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore now in control at QPR, De Canio feels that there is no limit to what the club could achieve in the next few years.
Challenge
"This is a fascinating challenge," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"QPR have ambitious plans.
"In five years' time we would like to be competing in the Champions League.
"Before coming here, Bernie Ecclestone appeared to me to be a classical manager, but instead I have discovered that he is a dedicated supporter."
Suffering
De Canio fully appreciates the work being done behind the scenes by the millionaire owners, and has compared Rangers' status in the Championship to that of Juventus' during their brief spell in Serie B last season.
"QPR is a poor club with wealthy shareholders," he said.
"Here, we have to work hard and we suffer because everyone wants to beat us, like what happened to Juve in Serie B."
