Curbishley tipped for England job
Charlton chief executive Peter Varney says it would be no surprise to him if Addicks boss Alan Curbishley ended up as England manager in the future. Curbishley has just clocked up 600 games in sole charge at The Valley, over a period spanning 10 years. "I'm not surprised he's linked with the England job. It's a great reflection on him and Charlton," said Varney. "Alan is one of the best English coaches there is, but he has got a job to do here and I hope he finishes it." Saturday's 1-0 win over Birmingham continued Charlton's 100% start to the season, and they are currently second in the Premiership with four wins in four games. Varney said when Curbishley did eventually leave the club, he would leave a substantial legacy for his successor. "Alan has shown tremendous loyalty, because he has had chances to better himself," Varney told the South London Press. "But he has stayed here, helped the club move forward, and created the best playing squad we have ever had. "We believe that history will record he is the greatest manager the club's ever had."
