Cole signs, Rushton departs
Jake Cole has signed a new contract to keep him with the club until 2008. This follows similar deals for Scott Donnelly, Stefan Bailey, Sean Thomas, Jon Munday, Andrew Howell and hopefully soon Shabazz Baidoo as Gary Waddock puts his faith in youth ahead of the new season. Cole has been with the club since he was ten years old and made an impressive cameo appearance in the second half at Reading on Sunday. The news leaves Gary Waddock with three quality goalkeepers signed up for the coming season, with Paul Jones likely to follow in the next few weeks. With Jones, Royce, Cole and Thomas all vying for places in the match day squad we may well say one or even both of the younger ones making a loan move elsewhere to further their education. Cole has already spent time with AFC Wimbledon in the past. Meanwhile long serving fitness coach Scott Rushton is the latest employee to depart Loftus Road. Rushton worked with Fulham and as an Army Physical Training Instructor before joining QPR in 2000 when Gerry Francis was the manager. "I've had a great time at QPR, the ups and downs of administration, relegation and promotion ensured that it was a rollercoaster ride. The trips to the Army camps and boxing days, as well as taking the boys to ballet and yoga made sure that many alternative training methods were covered. "I've enjoyed working under Gerry, Ian Holloway and also during the short time I've had with Gary Waddock," Rushton told the club's official website.
