Spireites disappoint Richardson
Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson felt his side became disheartened during their 2-0 defeat against Rotherham. Richardson told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We did well in the first half playing against the wind and were only a goal down and were the better side. "But then we conceded within 10 minutes of the second half and that was tough. "Rotherham were playing well and were tight in defence and I think eventually we grew more and more disheartened and that was disappointing to see."

Spireites demand home improvement
Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson was distraught after seeing the Spireites held to a 1-1 home draw by lowly Bradford City. "The return of one point from two home games is not good enough," he said. "We really needed the cushion of a second goal and should see the game through for a 1-0 win. "The honest truth is we don't look like keeping a clean sheet and perhaps we are too open. We are all gutted and know we have to improve our home form."

'Basic errors' concern Richardson
Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson was disappointed to see his side surrender an early lead and lose 2-1 at Accrington to two late goals. "Yet again, basic errors cost us - the Accrington penalty came from bad defending," Richardson explained. "I think that's five times now that we have lost points after taking the lead, then throwing it away. "And you can only make so many errors before the manager loses patience with certain players."

Spireites wary of Wrexham clash
Chesterfield assistant boss Alan Knill says the club must not take bottom side Wrexham for granted on Tuesday. The in-form Spireites have won three games in a row in League Two and currently occupy a play-off place. "We need to go into the game with the same attitude we showed at Bury and Barnet," Knill told the club website. "It doesn't matter where they are in the league. We played Mansfield who were bottom and it was a tough game. Anybody can beat anybody."

Lincoln secure double loan swoop
Lincoln City have completed the loan signings of Cheltenham's Lee Ridley and Chesterfield's Adam Smith. Both player's loans are for a month and they become Imps boss Peter Jackson's first January signings. Ridley, 26, a left-back or left-sided midfielder, started his career with Scunthorpe and has also played on loan for Darlington. Smith, 22, a left-winger who can also play up front, came through the youth set-up at Chesterfield.

Davies ends spell at Chesterfield
Chesterfield midfielder Gareth Davies has left the League Two outfit by mutual consent. The 24-year-old was released from his contract which was due to expire at the end of the season. He made 137 appearances for the Spireites after signing a first professional contract in May 2002. Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson told the club's website: "We need to shake things up a bit and Gareth is not in line for a regular first team place."

Boss hails clinical Chesterfield
Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson praised his side's finishing after seeing them bounce back from three defeats in a row to crush Hereford 4-0. Richardson said: "We started in the right way with plenty of workrate and got an early goal. "That performance has been pretty much par for the course at home but we put our chances away unlike against Dagenham, Morecambe and Grimsby. "We were clinical when we needed to be and solid in defence."

Sellars named Spireites assistant
Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson has named Scott Sellars as his new assistant manager following Alan Knill's appointment as Bury boss. Richardson played with 42-year-old Sellars at Blackburn and Huddersfield and the pair also took their coaching qualifications together. Sellars was working with the youth set-up at Sheffield United. He told the club's website: "I am honoured to get my chance and am really looking forward to getting stuck in." Richardson added: "I have known Scott for many years and am delighted he is joining us."

Sunderland loan duo to Spireites
Sunderland duo Peter Hartley and David Dowson have agreed one-month loan moves to Chesterfield. Defender Hartley and striker Dowson, both 19, are expected to make their debuts for the Spireites against Brentford this weekend. Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson told his club's website: "We are grateful to Sunderland manager Roy Keane for loaning out these two players. "They will help provide some healthy competition for places in the squad." Richardson is also hoping to add other players - including an experienced centre-back - to his squad. He said: "We are determined to get our man, but attempts to supplement the squad of a League Two side can be frustrating. "We have no control over the timing of when the right players become available and it's a crowded market where experienced players usually want to play at the highest possible level."

Chesterfield lodge stadium plans
Chesterfield have moved a step closer to building a new stadium after a formal planning application was submitted to the Borough Council. The proposals detail the regeneration of a former glass manufacturing factory site at Whittington Moor, Chesterfield. If the plans are approved the Spireites could move from Saltergate after work is completed in the winter of 2009. The plans include a supermarket and business premises which will occupy the rest of the 22-acre site. Chesterfield chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "I am delighted that we have now reached this key stage but the real milestone will be when the plans are approved by the Borough Council." Football has been played at Saltergate, also known as the Recreation ground, since 1871.

Spireites keep in play-offs touch
Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson has refused to rule out a play-off place despite the weekend draw at Morecambe. Luckily for the Spireites, other results went their way meaning they remain just two points away from League Two's top seven. "We play Darlington next, which is a massive game," Richardson told SSB. "It looks like we'll have to win our final three matches. "At this stage of the season you get results you're not expecting."

Spireites to sign ex-Blade Kerry
Chesterfield have agreed a two-year contract with former Sheffield United midfielder Lloyd Kerry and expect to complete the deal later this week. The Chesterfield-born player, 20, was on loan at Saltergate last season and impressed manager Lee Richardson. Richardson told SSB: "He's still a young pup and there's lots of raw materials that can be worked on." Kerry made 13 appearances and scored two goals for Chesterfield last season. He was released by the Blades at the end of last season.

Spireites are hit by suspensions
Two Chesterfield players have been suspended for the next three league matches after being sent off in the 3-0 defeat at Dagenham on Saturday. Captain Rob Page received his ban after being red carded for "serious foul play", after clashing in the air with Dagenham striker Ben Strevens. Midfielder Lloyd Kerry has also been given a three-game ban after his red card for punching the same player. Chesterfield have said Kerry was retaliating to an earlier incident. But the FA concluded that there was not sufficient evidence to support the bringing of charges against Strevens. Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson added: "In the spirit of fairness I hope that the FA will review the rules to see if incidents like this can be handled with greater flexibility in the future. "Apart from that we accept the punishments and just have to get on with it." Both players will miss the league matches against Rochdale, Brentford and Morecambe.
