Shaw injury blow for Chesterfield
Chesterfield striker Paul Shaw is facing a month on the sidelines with a knee injury. The 33-year-old and fellow forward Caleb Folan, 23, both came off during the win over Brentford. Manager Roy McFarland told Sir Stanley: \"Paul has got a problem with his medial ligaments in his knee. It's a massive disappointment to us. \"Caleb has stretched the front of his foot and he played on the worse it got. So he is a concern for Wednesday.\"

Brighton v Chesterfield
Brighton caretaker-boss Dean Wilkins is set to hand 19-year-old Sam Williams his debut after the striker joined on loan from Aston Villa. Paul Reid is out for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage and Alex Frutos may return to the side. Chesterfield make one change to their squad, with Alan O'Hare back after four games out with an ankle injury. Standing delays Chesterfield deal
Chesterfield's move to sign former Walsall midfielder Michael Standing on a month's contract has been delayed. The 25-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Saddlers in July, and the Spireites had announced on Wednesday that they had signed him. However, the Football Association have pointed out that if he is released at the end of the month, he could not join another club until January. Standing has now been given 24 hours to decide on his options. He has also previously played for Aston Villa and Bradford.

Chesterfield v Swansea
Chesterfield could hand a debut to midfielder Michael Standing after he earned a one-month deal at Saltergate. Caleb Folan serves the second game of a two-match ban and fellow striker Paul Shaw is sidelined with a knee problem. Swansea will hand a fitness test to defender Dennis Lawrence, but if he is not ready, Izzy Iriekpen and Alan Tate will form the Swans' central defence. Lee Trundle is pushing for a recall, but Adebayo Akinfenwa (shin) and Garry Monk (knee) are both still missing.

Chesterfield 2-3 Swansea
Chesterfield came off second best at home in a five-goal thriller, after Lee Trundle returned from injury to score twice and make Swansea's third. Trundle first chipped over the defence for Leon Britton to side-foot home, then added a second with a glancing header from Andy Robinson's cross. A defensive mix-up allowed Paul Hall to pull one back for Chesterfield. But Trundle added a penalty after Britton was tripped, although Reuben Hazell headed a Spireites' consolation. Doncaster 1-0 Chesterfield
Doncaster striker Jonathan Forte grabbed the only goal in an evenly contested match against Chesterfield. Forte charged down a misplaced kick from goalkeeper Barry Roche and tapped home from close range. Blatherwick forced to quit game
Chesterfield defender Steve Blatherwick has been forced to hang up his boots at the age of 32, on medical advice. Blatherwick had not played since March because of a back injury - and was advised by a specialist to quit. He has agreed a settlement with the Spireites, and has also been offered a benefit match at Saltergate to reflect his eight years' service to the club. \"This is the moment all footballers dread - but the medical advice is clear-cut,\" he told the club website. Boss Roy McFarland added: \"Steve has been a magnificent professional and can be proud of his career. \"It is always a sad time when a player has to retire prematurely due to injury, but we wish him and his family all the best for the future.\" Nottingham-born Blatherwick began his career at Notts County but without making an appearance for them, moved to neighbours Nottingham Forest. After loan spells at Wycombe, Hereford and Reading, he joined Burnley for £125,000 in 1997 but moved to Chesterfield a year later after a successful loan spell.

Chesterfield v West Ham
Chesterfield must do without the services of defender Phil Picken when they welcome Premiership strugglers West Ham to Saltergate. Picken sustained suspected knee ligament damage in Saturday's 1-0 loss at Doncaster. West Ham manager Alan Pardew plans to make \"three or four changes\" for the trip to Chesterfield. Matthew Etherington could return after missing Sunday's loss to Tottenham and George McCartney could make his debut. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- West Ham (from): Carroll, Green, Walker, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Konchesky, Spector, Dailly, Pantsil, Mears, McCartney, Benayoun, Mullins, Mascherano, Reo-Coker, Etherington, Sheringham, Cole, Harewood, Zamora, Tevez.

Chesterfield 2-1 West Ham
Caleb Folan's late strike secured a sensational victory for Chesterfield over West Ham in the Carling Cup. It piles more misery on to Alan Pardew's Premiership side who have now lost eight games in a row. Marlon Harewood opened the scoring with a stunning volley but the Spireites fought back bravely in the second half. Colin Larkin equalised after the interval, leaving Folan to grab the headlines for the League One side with a cool finish four minutes from time.

Chesterfield v Yeovil
Chesterfield have slight concerns over the fitness of Alex Bailey and Mark Allott (hamstring) and Coin Larkin should be fit after cramp. Captain Shane Nicholson (knee), fellow defender Gaz Davies (pelvis) and Paul Shaw (knee) are close to returns but Phil Picken (ligament) is still out. Yeovil are sweating on the fitness of striker Lee Morris (hamstring). Wayne Gray is favourite to stand in if he is not fit, and Terry Skiverton is expected to start after a virus.

SirStanleyBowles- 10-29-2006
Chesterfield 1-1 Yeovil
Marcus Stewart's dramatic late goal snatched a valuable draw for Yeovil. Stewart grabbed his fifth of the season, heading Chris Cohen's cross into the bottom-left corner from 12 yards in the dying moments of the game. Chesterfield, spurred by the shock Carling Cup win against West Ham, went ahead when Alan Hare tapped in at the far post from Kevan Hurst's cross. Ben Chorley, on loan from MK Dons, is in line to make his first start. Chesterfield's Reuben Hazell, Paul Hall, Mark Allott, Derek Niven, Kevan Hurst and Caleb Folan are expected to return to the starting line-up. They were rested for the midweek cup match, while Alex Bailey and Shane Nicholson could return after injury.

Chesterfield v Charlton
Chesterfield leading scorer Caleb Folan will be given every opportunity to recover from a hamstring strain. Mark Hughes is doubtful with a knee problem along with Mark Allott who did travel to Gillingham at the weekend. Charlton boss Iain Dowie may gamble on resting goalkeeper Scott Carson and top goalscorer Darren Bent. Dennis Rommedahl (groin) is already ruled out and reserve keeper Thomas Myhre is missing, so Stephan Andersen could face the League One strugglers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charlton (from): Andersen, Carson, Young, Fortune, El Karkouri, Diawara, Hreidarsson, Faye, Hughes, Pouso, Reid, Holland, Kishishev, Thomas, Hasselbaink, M Bent, D Bent, Ambrose, Ashton, Sankofa, John, Randolph.
