Carsley misses out for Republic
Lee Carsley has not been included in the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Denmark. Republic boss Steve Staunton says Carsley remains in his plans for next month's two Euro 2008 qualifiers. "When Lee came back into the squad, we agreed if I was not going to use him, I wouldn't bring him around the world to sit on the bench," said Staunton. Stephen Carr, Andy Reid and Stephen Elliott return after injury but Shay Given and Damien Duff are ruled out. Given has a groin injury while Duff is troubled by an ankle problem but Staunton remains hopeful that both will be fit for the games in Slovakia (8 September) and the Czech Republic (12 September) Carr hasn't played since last year's opening Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany because of injury while both Reid and Elliott were ruled out of the home wins over Wales and Slovakia in March. Birmingham City goalkeeper Colin Doyle, Wolves pair Darren Potter and Andy Keogh and Sunderland's Darryl Murphy, who were part of the the understrength Republic squad which played in the US in May, are included in the 23-man panel for the game in Aarhus. Carsley made himself available for the Republic squad again last August and he started against Wales and Slovakia. Also left out of the squad are Sheffield United's goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison and Andy O'Brien, who last week joined Bolton Wanderers from Portsmouth.
