U's will keep working says Newman
Cambridge manager Rob Newman insists his side can turn around their season - despite four defeats from their opening five Conference games. \"The players haven't thrown in the towel - I hope there's enough time to put it right,\" he said after Monday's 2-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge. \"We had eight players out injured, so I had two unfit players and a 17-year-old on the bench. It was tough. \"But as I've said before, once we get that win, it's all about confidence.\"

No Jaszczun appeal from Cambridge
Cambridge boss Rob Newman has decided not to appeal against Tommy Jaszczun's red card against Dagenham & Redbridge as the video evidence is inconclusive. \"Tommy is adamant he didn't throw a punch, their players said he didn't and the referee is the only one who saw it,\" Newman told the club website. \"But we've looked at the match video and you cannot see what happened. \"The camera followed the ball and then came back to the incident - so Tommy will be missing for three games.\" Cambridge have announced that finance director Nick Pomery has stepped down from the board.

Tisdale praises Exeter response
Exeter manager Paul Tisdale was proud of his side after they came from a goal down to beat Cambridge United 3-1. \"Their goal was just one of those things but we should not have allowed the ball to be coming into our box in the first place,\" Tisdale said. \"But at half-time we were confident of winning. We felt we'd taken everything they had to give in the first half. \"We were frank at half-time and we said 'we can beat these'. That belief shone through in the second half.

Turner wants Cambridge discipline
Cambridge's newly appointed temporary coach Chris Turner says he and chairman Lee Power will be expecting greater professionalism from the players. Turner told Sir Stanley: \"The players need to do the right things that Lee and I expect of them. \"They need to train properly and be here every day at the right time because some players are not doing that and that's a problem. \"Some players are turning up 40 minutes late and that can't be right.\"

Cambridge mourn legendary Moore
Cambridge United are mourning their legendary goalscorer Brian Moore, who has died at the age of 72. Born in Belfast, he joined West Ham United from Glentoran in 1955. But playing for the Hammers against Middlesbrough later that year, he was left blind in one eye when he was hit full in the face by the ball. However, he moved into non-league football with Cambridge in the Eastern Counties League - scoring a club record 68 goals in the 1957/58 season. He later went on to play for Cambridge City, Wisbech and Newmarket.

Forest Green 1-1 Cambridge Utd
Cambridge and Forest Green are still looking for their first league wins of the season after settling for a draw. But Daniel Carey-Bertram rose unchallenged to head home Marcus Richardson's cross and earn Cambridge a point deep into stoppage time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forest Green: Steve Williams, Lawless, Edwards, Jones, Nicholson, Afful (Danny Williams 60), Pitman, Clist, Stonehouse (Brough 60), Meechan, Russell (Ipoua 77). Cambridge hope for turning point
Cambridge chairman Lee Power hopes Saturday's last-minute equaliser at fellow strugglers Forest Green can be a turning point for managerless United. The U's prop up the Conference with two points from seven games, and Power said: \"Hopefully that goal in injury time will kick-start our season. \"If we had another minute or two I'm sure we'd have got the three points. \"They're an honest bunch of players, and we looked like a different team in the second half.\"

U's will not rush to appoint boss
Cambridge chairman Lee Power says he will take his time selecting the next U's manager but hopes that he will make an appointment relatively quickly. Former boss Rob Newman was sacked by the club on 1 September. Power told Sir Stanley: \"I was hoping to have a manager in by the start of this week. \"The other directors have spoken to people but it's been a little bit disappointing but we won't rush because we need to get the right person in.\"

Wilder poised for Cambridge post
Cambridge United are set to name Halifax Town boss Chris Wilder as their new manager. Wilder is expected to leave The Shay to take up the vacant post at Halifax's Conference rivals. The 38-year-old former Sheffield United and Bradford City defender has been in charge of Halifax since July 2002. He took over following Halifax's relegation from the Football League and almost led them back up last season, only to lose in the play-off final. Cambridge have been looking for a new manager since Rob Newman was sacked at the start of the month following a winless start to the season.

Davies injury blow for Cambridge
Cambridge United defender Adam Davies has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Davies, 19, was injured in the U's recent game against Dagenham and Redbridge and underwent initial surgery to repair torn cartilage on Wednesday. The Wales under-21 international faces a second operation to reconstruct the knee, which also sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage. U's physio Greg Reid told the club's website: \"He won't play this season.\"

U's boss encourages striker Marum
Cambridge boss Jimmy Quinn hopes striker Liam Marum can take heart after netting in the 2-0 win over Aldershot - Quinn's first home game as manager. \"I played in that position but I never had the pace he has,\" Quinn said. \"So I told him he has to be a lot more aggressive in his play, hold the ball up and try to have efforts on goal. \"I said that sometimes you might hit the corner flag, but don't worry about that - he still needs a bit of work, but he's scored two in two games.\"

Cambridge Utd 1-2 Crawley
Crawley moved off the bottom of the Conference table on goal difference thanks to Scott Rendell's double. Jake Edwards hit the post for the Reds before turning provider for Rendell, who drilled in a shot from 12 yards.
