Caf bans Lupopo's stadium
The DR Congo's St Eloi Lupopo will have to play their remaining Confederation Cup games 2000km from home in Kinshasa. This after their home ground in Lubumbashi was banned for a year by the Confederation of African Football (Caf). Caf's decision came following an incident during Lupopo's Champions League game with Enyimba of Nigeria on 6 May. Lupopo supporters kidnapped an Enyimba official from the stadium's dressing room because they believed that he was using 'juju' or witchcraft. The official was taken away from the stadium and then eventually released following the game that Enyimba won 1-0. It also means that if Lupopo and their local rivals TP Mazembe qualify for either of the continental competitions next year they will also have to play their qualifying games in the capital Kinshasa. Meanwhile Caf has also handed the DR Congo's Football Federation (Fecofa) a one year suspended ban and a fine of US$5000 for its poor organization of African Champions league games. Caf say Fecofa offered match officials and referees poor accommodation and transportation facilities. The secretary general of Fecofa Chiyoka Bashige told BBC Sport that he is not surprised by Caf's decisions. \"For what the Lupopo supporters did in kidnapping the Enyimba official they deserved the punishment,\" Mr Chiyoka said. \"And the suspension of Fecofa should be applied to the Congolese government. \"We organize Caf and Fifa competitions technically but it's the government's duty to release the money for officials' tickets and other expenses but its us who end being sanctioned.\"
