Shakers headhunted me, says Knill
New Bury manager Alan Knill has revealed the club sought him out to replace Chris Casper at Gigg Lane. The former Chesterfield assistant told SSB: "They approached Chesterfield for permission to speak to me - they wanted me. "That's fantastic for me. They want all the same things I want and I definitely have an affinity with the town. "It sounds corny but it's always one of the results I look for because I enjoy the town and the people."

Adams set for new Shakers deal
Bury manager Alan Knill has confirmed Nicky Adams is set to be offered a new contract to stay at Gigg Lane. Adams scored Bury's goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw with neighbours Rochdale, just weeks after the Shakers rejected Dale's undisclosed offer for the striker. "We're talking to him about a new contract and I think Nicky wants to stay," Knill told SSB. "We're delighted to have him and I've already seen some progress with him. I think he will be a top player."

Bury can make play-offs - Sodje
Bury's new signing Efe Sodje believes the club can reach the League Two play-offs this season. But the defender, 35, who joined the club from Gillingham last week, admits automatic promotion will be difficult. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I think we have got enough quality in the players in the changing room now to go for the play-offs. "We can't say we are going to go for promotion because they have to put money in." Sodje made 16 appearances for Bury last season on loan from Gillingham and is now returning to Gigg Lane as a player-coach. He said: "I'm delighted, I've got my office already. I enjoyed it last season and now I'm going to enjoy it this time. "Obviously I did a good job, that's why the manager wants me to come back and I want to try and improve on that."

Bury boss upbeat after vital win
Bury boss Alan Knill has insisted the 3-1 win at Dagenham has sent out a message of intent to League Two rivals. The Gigg Lane club chalked up their sixth league win of the season at the Daggers to maintain their unbeaten league away record and climb to second. Knill told Radio Manchester: "It was a massive win for us because when you lose, all of a sudden people start talking about the bubble has burst. "You hear this and that so you have to set down another marker." He added: "There could not be any better way than coming here and winning. "They were second in the league and for us to win 3-1 is fantastic. It just says 'we can compete', though we do have to be on our game. "Ok, we did have a bit of luck but it does say we can compete in this league."

Morrell keen to show true value
Andy Morrell has said he wants Bury fans to value his all-round game, not just his goalscoring. The ex-Coventry and Blackpool striker had endured a four-month goal drought before grabbing the winner in the 2-1 victory against Aldershot. He told Radio Manchester: "I'm hoping I'm not just a goalscorer here. I try to do a lot for the team. "I work quite hard and I do defensive jobs for the team when we haven't got the ball." He added: "I do quite a lot of hard work off the ball too. So hopefully the fans will see that when I am not scoring goals. "But I was brought here to score goals and to help Bish (Andy Bishop) and Hursty (Glynn Hurst) out and get us up and out of this division. "It's taken a while for me to get back on the scoresheet but now I've managed to nick one and hopefully that'll help take us on a run."

Bury endured 'hangover' - Dawson
Bury midfielder Stephen Dawson says they endured a League Two "hangover" at the start of this season after narrowly missing out promotion last term. The Shakers lost out to Shrewsbury at the play-off semi-final stage after a dramatic penalty shoot-out. He told Radio Manchester: "We were so unlucky last year but that's over with now, we've got to do it this year. "We probably had a bit of a hangover effect and it affected our performance a bit with the disappointment." He added: "After our poor start to the season when we lost too many games, we've come back with three on the bounce and we now definitely believe we can be at the top end at the end of the season. "It's a tough league, anyone can beat anyone as there are a lot of strong, physical teams who are very hard to break down. "I believe we can go up again this year. The fans now expect a lot more this year so there's a lot more round us now but I believe we can do it this year, definitely."
