Brighton target Evatt
Reports from the local press on the south coast suggest QPR's transfer listed centre half Ian Evatt could be on his way to join League One outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, possibly on loan.
Brighton were relegated from the Championship last season and their preparations for the new season haven't got off to the best start with a 4-1 pre-season defeat by League Two side MK Dons.
First choice centre halves Guy Butters and Adam Hinshelwood are both struggling with injuries ahead of the new season and manager Mark McGhee told The Argus he's desperate to add to his squad before the big kick off at Rotherham next week.
McGhee confirmed that Evatt was his prime target, with a loan deal a possibility. \"We've got one in the pipe line. It's up to the player to see whether he comes or not and we might bring in another one,\" McGhee said.
Evatt joined Rangers from Chesterfield where he was the reigning Player of the Season a year ago. The transfer and subsequent agents fees have been the source of controversy at Loftus Road ever since and the club have paid anything up to £250k for the centre back who struggled to adapt to the pace of the Championship and was transfer listed by Ian Holloway in January.
The former Derby centre half made 22 starts and 6 sub appearances for Rangers last season.
SEASIDERS SNAP-UP EVATT
Blackpool have signed QPR defender Ian Evatt on a six-month loan deal.
The 24-year-old joined Rangers last summer from Chesterfield and went on to make 27 appearances for the London outfit - and is expected to walk straight into Simon Grayson's Seasiders line-up for the opening day trip Brentford.
At 6ft 3ins, Evatt is a major presence in any side's rearguard, and bolsters Grayson's defensive options after skipper Peter Clarke's shock move to Southend on Wednesday.
He is likely to form an all-new central defensive partnership with Shaun Barker, who joined the Bloomfield Road club from Rotherham this week.
