Briatore - Dowie had to go
Flavio Briatore says it would have been a 'big disaster' if Queens Park Rangers had not sacked Iain Dowie. The Championship club parted with Dowie last month, just 15 games into the new season amid suggestions Briatore wanted to be involved in team selection. Gareth Ainsworth has been placed in caretaker charge and Briatore is keen to hand the QPR midfielder the job on a permanent basis. Briatore, who bought QPR last year, believes dismissing Dowie was the right decision and has denied having a hand in picking the team. "I was not happy with the football that Dowie was producing, simple as that," Briatore told The Times. "I know what I am doing. I have won World Championships in Formula One. I have not come from the steel business or the finance business. I am from the sport business." Crazy When asked if he tried to influence Dowie's team selection before his dismissal ahead of a 0-0 draw at Reading, Briatore replied: "It was just a normal discussion. "The coach is important, but the money is coming from us. "If we had not made the decision about Dowie, the season could have been a big disaster. I'm not scared to make a decision. Not making a decision is often a bad decision. "In the papers they say that I choose the team, but this is crazy.
