Fitzgerald angry at Bees players Brentford caretaker manager Scott Fitzgerald criticised his players after their second successive 4-0 home defeat - this time against Doncaster.
Fitzgerald said: \"They let themselves and the supporters down.
\"Teams get through a season just on desire, that will take you a long way. Is it missing right now? I can't answer that one.
\"But each player will have to look at himself and ask why we haven't won in so many games or even scored.\"

\"We are closing in now but we judge it's best for the team's preparation that Scott Fitzgerald maintains his caretaking role for Saturday's match.\"

Brentford name Fitzgerald as boss Brentford caretaker manager Scott Fitzgerald has been handed the position on a permanent basis.
Alan Reeves will continue as assistant to Fitzgerald as the Bees, without a win in 16 league matches, battle against relegation from League One.
Fitzgerald took over as caretaker following the dismissal of Leroy Rosenior on 18 November.
A club statement said: \"In a short period of time they have worked on fitness, organisation and team spirit.\"
Brentford have yet to win under Fitzgerald's stewardship and have picked up only one league point in four fixtures.
Fitzgerald and Reeves are understood to have signed deals until the end of the season, with managing director Keith Dickens commenting: \"If we maintain our League One status the incentive for Scott is a good extension of the contract.\"
Brentford, who play Carlisle at Brunton Park on Saturday, are four points adrift of safety.
But the club have been encouraged by the effect Fitzgerald and Reeves have had upon the squad.
The statement continued: \"They have delivered an encouraging performance improvement.
\"We believe that a continuation of such improvement will have a positive impact upon results and achieve our goal of maintaining League One status.\"

Bees boss Fitzgerald takes blame Brentford boss Scott Fitzgerald refused to hide after the 2-2 draw with Oldham pushed them closer to relegation.
"The buck stops with me and I don't have a problem with that," he said. "I pick the side and its tactics and we're not winning enough games.

Boss Fitzgerald leaves Brentford Brentford have announced that manager Scott Fitzgerald has left the club following the club's relegation from League One.
The Bees' fate was sealed on Monday when they lost to Crewe.

Head of youth Barry Quin takes over as caretaker manager but will not be a candidate for the full-time post.
Dyke told the club website: "The entire focus now is to rebuild for next season, thus giving us the best opportunity to bounce straight back into League One.
"It is encouraging that all four clubs relegated from League One last season are contenders for promotion this year. Hopefully we can match their performance next season."
Fitzgerald was handed the reins in December after a spell as caretaker boss following the sacking of Leroy Rosenior a month earlier.
