Bees decide against Thorpe appeal
Brentford boss Terry Butcher has chosen not to appeal against striker Lee Thorpe's sending-off in Saturday's fiery 2-1 derby win against Barnet. Thorpe was shown a straight red card for a foul, and Butcher told his club's website: "The challenge was in no way premeditated, but looked clumsy. "On viewing the tape, the challenge seemed far worse than it actually was, and was clearly mistimed. "We will not be seeking a claim for wrongful dismissal."

Marshall joins Brentford as coach
Former Brentford defender Scott Marshall has been appointed as the club's new youth team manager. The 34-year-old replaces Bob Paterson following his recent resignation for personal reasons. Marshall made almost 100 appearances for Brentford from 1999 to 2003 following earlier spells with Arsenal and Southampton. He had been working part-time with Brentford's under-16 side and has also coached in the youth set-up at Wycombe.

Charlton have agreed the League Two side to have the services of 18-year-old defender Grant Basey for a third and final month. Defiant Butcher vows to continue
Brentford manager Terry Butcher insists he has no thoughts of resigning despite the 7-0 defeat at Peterborough and the Cup exit to fellow strugglers Luton. "I'd never throw the towel in, I love everything about the club," he said. "You can't believe how frustrated I am because I am the man in charge and I haven't delivered yet. "We must start from scratch everywhere. That takes time and money. I'm still confident we can turn it around but everyone has to stand up together." Fans vented their anger at Butcher after the Luton defeat while there were chants in favour of former manager Martin Allen, who was in the crowd.

Boss Butcher leaves Brentford job
Brentford have parted company with manager Terry Butcher by mutual consent after just seven months at the club. His assistant Andy Scott has been named as caretaker manager and will take charge for the first time in Saturday's crucial League Two game at Wrexham. Brentford have lost their last five league games and have not scored a goal for 520 minutes. Chairman Greg Dyke said: "Terry could not have worked harder for this club and it is a great shame to see him go." He added: "He's a decent, honest, likeable bloke and for men and women of my generation he is still a footballing hero. He goes with my very best wishes for the future." Butcher said: "I would like to thank Brentford for giving me the opportunity to manage the club and I wish them every success in the future." The former England captain was Brentford's third manager in 18 months following the departure of Martin Allen in May 2006. Leroy Rosenior was appointed as Allen's successor but was sacked last November after the Bees failed to win for 16 matches. Youth team boss Scott Fitzgerald replaced Rosenior but could not stop the club being relegated at the end of last season. They have continued to struggle this term, despite making a reasonable start, and only won five out of 23 matches under Butcher. Temporary boss Scott said: "I am desperately disappointed for Terry but I would ask everybody, both players and supporters alike, to focus on our next important match at Wrexham this coming Saturday."

Scott salutes Brentford fightback
Caretaker boss Andy Scott was naturally pleased as managerless Brentford came from behind to win 3-1 at Wrexham. "I told them at half-time that I wasn't worried, even though we were 1-0 down and had missed a penalty, as I believed we could create chances," Scott said. "I told them that if they got one, the floodgates would open. "Maybe my confidence in them was what they needed. But they've shown now that they can do it - when we haven't done it consistently this season."

Brentford have signed former Bristol City defender David Partridge on a month-long contract. The Wales international, 29, joins the Bees, where he previously had a spell on loan, as a free agent after leaving Ashton Gate last season. Partridge started his career at West Ham and had spells at Dundee United and Motherwell. Brentford's caretaker-boss Andy Scott has also extended midfielder Ryan Dickinson's loan for a second month.

Scott hoping to get Brentford job
Brentford caretaker boss Andy Scott has said he hopes to succeed Terry Butcher as the club's next permanent manager. Scott has led the side to a win and a draw in his first two games in charge. "With Christmas coming up when you don't do much training it would be hard for someone else to come in," he told the club website. "That's a benefit to me as I can have more games. If we can get more results like this I'd like to think it would be hard for the board not to give me it."

Scott confirmed as Brentford boss
Brentford have confirmed the appointment of Andy Scott as the club's manager following his successful spell in temporary charge. The Bees have won three and drawn one of the five games Scott has been at the helm for since the sacking of Terry Butcher as manager. "Andy has earned the chance to show that he can maintain this level of performance," said chairman Greg Dyke. "A team that looked to be in trouble has suddenly come alive." Scott was a coach at Griffin Park before being asked to step up after Butcher's exit. His first game as full-time boss will be an away match against Shrewsbury this weekend. "I'm delighted to be named manager," said Scott. "It's a fantastic chance for both myself and the club to improve. "It may take time for me to get the players in that are required and to get them playing in the style I believe is successful. "But anyone who has seen us over the past five games would agree that if we carry on in the same vein, not only will times ahead be exciting but also entertaining. "The ultimate ambition is promotion, but given our restrictions it's important that I and the club work together and be sensible in trying to achieve our goal."

Scott salutes hard-working Bees
Brentford boss Andy Scott was pleased to win 1-0 at Shrewsbury in his first match since being confirmed as manager on a full-time basis. "Although it was only 1-0, the manner of the victory was emphatic - the players gave me everything," he said. "Some of our football was probably the best we've played for a long time - maybe for a couple of years. "When you lose games your confidence goes, but I know they are good players - I've never doubted their ability."

Dickson joins Bees as Mackie goes
Brentford have signed left-sided Plymouth player Ryan Dickson, 21, for an undisclosed fee after a loan spell. Dickson, who has played on the wing and at left-back, has signed a "long-term" contract and Scott told the club website: "It's a real bonus for us." Meanwhile three players, including captain John Mackie, 31, who moved from Leyton Orient in May, have had their contracts terminated by mutual consent. Defender Sam Tillen, 22, and Karle Carder-Andrews, 18, are the others.

Brentford extend Hamer loan deal
Brentford have extended the loan spell of Reading goalkeeper Ben Hamer until the end of the season. The 20-year-old was signed by the Bees in January on a 28-day loan deal. He spent two months with Brentford earlier this campaign and played seven games for the League Two club before returning to the Royals in October. Bees boss Andy Scott told the club's website: "In the two spells he's had with us he's been exceptional and has done everything asked of him." Hamer came through Reading's academy ranks before signing professional terms in the summer of 2006. He spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Crawley and played 45 games.

Scott hoping for play-off place
Brentford manager Andy Scott has admitted the club's League Two play-off dream may still be alive. The Bees beat Grimsby 2-1 on Monday to record back-to-back wins and are only five points off the top seven. Scott told SSB: ""We're not shouting from the rooftops about it. We've got six games to go. That's 18 points and we'll try to get them. "If that takes us into the play-offs then great. I think we would have to win them all to get in the play-offs."

Olympic bid chief joins Brentford
Mike Power, the former chief operating officer for the London 2012 Olympics bid team, has joined Brentford's board. He has been named as a non-executive director following the resignation of Ian Jones on 1 May. The appointment takes place as momentum starts to build up on the project to develop a new community stadium at a site in Lionel Road in Brentford. Power said: "I am delighted to be able to help out on what will be a very challenging project to deliver." For the past five years Mike Power has been chief operating officer for London's successful bid for the 2012 Games and held the same role for the London organising committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. He added: "Having been born in Isleworth and supported Brentford since my schooldays it is exciting to be involved in a project which could transform the future prospects for the club." Brentford chairman Greg Dyke, who is also chairman of the Lionel Road stadium subsidiary, said: "To attract someone of Mike's stature and experience to help us with the project is a real coup for the club. "I am sorry to see Ian leave the Lionel Road board and on behalf of everyone involved I would like to express our thanks to Ian for his valuable assistance in helping us to progress the project this far, Ian is continuing on the board of the football club."
