Beckham upbeat on England chance
David Beckham says he will join up with England for the friendly with Germany on 22 August if he comes through two games for Los Angeles Galaxy this week.
The midfielder, 32, who has an ankle problem, played a full part in Galaxy training for the first time on Tuesday.
He expects to play a half against DC United in the SuperLiga on Wednesday then may face New York on Saturday.
"It feels stable enough to actually play in a game and see how far I can take it," he said of his ankle.
"I don't want to be meeting up with England and not being able to take part in the game because obviously that means another player doesn't get the opportunity to play.
"If I'm right, I'll be meeting up."
Beckham has been restricted to only 37 minutes on the pitch since joining the Galaxy.
He played 17 minutes on his Major League Soccer debut in Washington last week but missed Sunday's game against New England Revolution.
Beckham now hopes to play at least 45 minutes in the SuperLiga semi-final - even though he described his ankle's recovery process as being at "about 78%".
Coach Frank Yallop said Beckham's availability, even if only for part of the game, was a huge boost for his faltering team.
"David is available to start and play a significant role against DC United, and I fully expect to give him his SuperLiga debut at some point in the contest," said Yallop.
"The game is very important to the club and we have a number of players injured or suspended, so to have David available will be a big boost."
The SuperLiga tournament involves four MLS sides and four from Mexico's first division.
Providing he comes through Wednesday's game, Beckham will travel to New York for Saturday's league game.
New York Red Bulls, who attracted a crowd of 12,103 in their last game, have sold 55,000 tickets for the visit of the Galaxy - with Beckham the main attraction.
