Barrow
Barrow co-boss Dave Bayliss has warned his players that they must match the club's ambitions or risk being replaced by new additions. "The lads definitely deserve a chance, but that doesn't always happen in football," he told SSB. "There's no sentiment in football. I got released by Luton despite helping them get promotion to the Championship. "If we think we can improve the team to what we've got then the new players will play before the lads we've got." Bayliss and co-boss Darren Sheridan are both convinced their squad does have the capability to deal with the pressure of Blue Square Premier football. Their play-off semi-finals and final were played before big crowds and Bayliss is adamant his players are boosted by the prospect of trips to Mansfield and Wrexham next season. "I think the lads respond as every good footballer should. I know myself I prefer playing in front of 1,000 people rather than 200," he said. "We didn't need to do a teamtalk for the Telford games because you could sense the atmosphere and the lads were up for it. "All we need to do next season is make sure they are as prepared as they were for the play-off games and we're very confident that we'll be ok next year."

Barrow target two more signings
Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss says he is hopeful of completing the signing of two "high-profile" players before the start of the season. Bayliss is eager to strengthen the squad as Barrow prepare for their return to the non-league's top level for the first time since 1998. "We've got a couple of irons in the fire this week," Bayliss revealed to BBC Radio Cumbria. "They're two Football League players and we're hoping they will come off." The Bluebirds have made two signings so far this summer in striker Lee Hunt from Rhyl and midfielder Ashley Winn from Stalybridge Celtic. Barrow have also handed a trial to former Oldham Athletic and Farsley Celtic defender Mike Pearson, who appeared as a substitute in Tuesday's 2-0 defeat by Morecambe. "He did well," Bayliss said. "Mike can play at right-back or left-back and we'll have another look at him against Radcliffe Borough on Saturday. "We are in no rush to make a decision. He has been offered full-time contracts elsewhere so it is really down to the lad himself." The Bluebirds are also expected to take another look at former Morecambe and Blackpool defender Jamie Burns. Defender Paul Jones is set for a scan on a leg injury picked up in the Morecambe defeat, while Hunt missed the game with tonsilitis.

Woodyatt hopes for quick return
Barrow defender Lee Woodyatt is hopeful of a quicker-than-expected return from his serious leg injuries. The 25-year-old suffered a break of the tibia and fibia as well as a dislocated ankle during the 3-2 friendly defeat at Kendal Town. "I'm probably going to be in a cast for around three months," Woodyatt told BBC Radio Cumbria. "Obviously I don't want to rush it but I'm hoping to be back playing again in six months' time." Woodyatt began his career with Chester City before moving to Northwich Victoria in the summer of 2003. The right-back spent just one season with The Vics before a move to Vauxhall Motors in October 2004. He joined Barrow in June 2008 and was ever-present during the 2007-08 promotion-winning season. "The leg's been a bit sore for the last few days but the pain seems to have settled down a bit now," Woodyatt added. The Bluebirds have signed former Oldham defender Mike Pearson to cover Woodyatt's absence as the club prepare for the new Blue Square Premier season. "We've got a good mixture in the team now," Woodyatt said. "Fitness-wise we are looking good as well. I don't think we'll have a problem and I'm sure we will more than hold our own." Woodyatt has also thanked the club's supporters for the support they have given him following his injury. "I've been shocked to be honest at all the support I've had from the fans. When I was leaving in the ambulance I could hear everyone singing my name," he said "It's nice to know they're behind you and I just want to thank the fans for their support." Meanwhile, the Bluebirds have handed a trial to former Manchester City and Darlington midfielder Carlos Logan. The 23-year-old spent last season at Altrincham before leaving Moss Lane in February.

Barrow must cut errors - Bayliss
Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss says his team have to cut out their costly "schoolboy errors" to survive in the Blue Square Premier. Bayliss saw his side gift Salisbury two of their goals in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. "I'd say only three of the goals we've conceded so far the other teams have had to work for ," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria. "The rest have been 'gimme's' and that's something we have to put right." The Bluebirds dropped down to 10th in the Blue Square Premier following the Salisbury defeat. "We were the best team in the first 45 minutes but a mistake just before half time saw our heads drop. It was a flattering score line for them and one we are still hurting from." Bayliss says he and Darren Sheridan will spend time this week trying to eradicate the mistakes that have been proved costly for his side so far this season. "We sat down after the game and had a chat about it," he said. "Last season we kept 15 clean sheets out of 17 and that's what we built our season around." "We thought we would do that again this season but every mistake we have made we have been punished for. "We've given teams goals, the goalkeeper trying to take centre-forwards on, people not defending properly at set-pieces. "These are basic schoolboy errors and this is what we'll be working at in training this week. " Kettering Town, who were promoted along with Barrow from Blue Square North last season, are the visitors to Holker Street this weekend.

Bayliss hopeful Brown will stay
Barrow co-manager Dave Bayliss hopes to persuade striker David Brown to remain at Holker Street after Saturday's impressive debut against Kidderminster. Brown, 30, signed for the Bluebirds on a non-contract basis and Bayliss is keen to snap up the former Hull City forward on a longer-term deal. "It's something that we'll have to speak to him about, he fits into how we play," Bayliss told Radio Cumbria. "Hopefully he's enjoyed it and if he wants to stay we'd be delighted." Brown began his career with Manchester United as a trainee and lists Hull, Torquay United and Chester City among his former clubs, making 337 first-team appearances and scoring 76 goals prior to joining Barrow. Meanwhile, Saturday's 1-0 win against Harriers ended Barrow's four-match losing run, although with fixtures against Burton Albion and Crawley Town looming, Bayliss remains cautious as to suggestions of a turn-around in fortunes. "They're all big games and you don't get an easy ride in this league," he said. "It's only one game. We could be back in it on Tuesday, you take any wins that you get at this level when you can. "If we show the dogged desire we saw on Saturday then we're not going to be far away. We don't expect miracles, we just expect the players to put the shirt on and show a bit of pride."

Bayliss threatens Barrow changes
Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss has warned his squad that major changes could be made during the January transfer window. Bayliss was angered by his side's poor display in Tuesday night's 3-2 Setanta Shield win over Fleetwood Town. He told Radio Cumbria: "We've got money to spend and have got a shopping list for January. "Maybe some of them feel safe. If they want to come in with that attitude then more fool them." The Bluebirds had led 3-1 at half-time through a Jason Walker hat-trick with the visitors reduced to ten men. "There were too many people thinking the game was over at half-time," sais Bayliss. "Some players were strutting around the pitch and that's not the response we want from the lads, we were furious with some of them." Bayliss believes some of his squad have still to prove they are capable of playing at a higher level following last season's promotion from the Blue Square North. "Some of the decision-making is unbelievably bad and that's what they've got to get out of their heads," he said. "We're not frightened to change things. We've put our faith in these lads and this isn't good enough. "If they think they are too good for this level then they can come and see us and they can go." Barrow welcome Eastbourne Borough in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday looking for their first home league win since 23 August. "We know we have to play a lot better to get a win on Saturday," said Bayliss. "This is one of our cup finals because they are one of the teams around us that we have to beat. "It's a must-win game but it will be tough."

Brodie debut impresses Sheridan
Barrow joint-boss Darren Sheridan believes on-loan striker Richard Brodie will have a big impact at the club. The England C international, who joined from York City last week, scored twice on his Bluebirds debut in the 4-0 FA Cup win at Tamworth on Saturday. "He did well and he gives us more options for the team," Sheridan told Radio Cumbria. "It was a great debut from him and we know there is still more to come in the next few games." Brodie, 21, hit 10 goals for York last season, after joining from Newcastle Benfield in January 2007. And the Bluebirds have revealed to BBC Radio Cumbria that Brodie is on their list of transfer targets when the January window opens. The club are hopeful of tying-up a permanent deal for the player if his loan stay proves a success. But Brodie would not be drawn on the possibility of a permanent switch to Holker Street. "At the moment I am looking forward to playing as many games as I can for Barrow," he said. "I'm here for a month and then we'll take it from there." Barrow host Forest Green in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday as they look for a third consecutive win in all competitions. And Sheridan added: "We're expecting a tough game down there to be honest. "They're in a similar position as us in terms of their league position but we have got a lot of confidence after the win on Saturday." Sheridan also believes the club's FA Cup first-round draw at Eastbourne Borough presents a good opportunity for the club to progress in the competition this season. "It's a game we're capable of winning, we played Eastbourne and beat them 3-1 at Holker Street a couple of weeks ago," he said. "It will be tough but it gives us a chance of progressing in the competition."

Bayliss urges Barrow to progress
Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss has described Saturday's visit of Forest Green Rovers to Holker Street as another "must-win" game for his side. Bayliss believes his team cannot afford to drop points against those sides around them in the Blue Square Premier. "They are below us so if we can get a win, it will open the gap between us and the teams near the bottom," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "They are probably in a false position so we know it will be a tough game." Barrow have suffered just one defeat in their last five games in all competitions and Bayliss said it is a run of form that has lifted the confidence of his squad. "It changes the mood throughout the camp," he said. "The lads are buzzing and that's what winning games does for you." "We've just got to keep that confidence up and take it into the next game now." The Bluebirds will check on the fitness of defender Paul Jones ahead of Saturday's game. Jones has a calf injury but is expected to train this week. Bayliss has also been quick to play down suggestions that York City will be keen to recall striker Richard Brodie on completion of his one-month loan spell with The Bluebirds. "We don't know. He's only one game into his loan so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it," he said. Barrow striker Nick Rogan will see a specialist this week after suffering a broken cheekbone while playing on-loan for Vauxhall Motors in the 3-0 win over Workington Reds. "It was a bit of a nothing incident but unfortunately the injury was severe," Bayliss said. "He might be able to play with a protective mask on but he's had one of those ugly masks on for the past 24 years so he'll be used to it."

Barrow sign Carlisle striker Cook
Barrow have signed Carlisle United striker Andy Cook on a month's loan ahead of the trip to Crawley Town. Cook, 18, recently spent time on loan at Blue Square North side Workington Reds, where he made five appearances for Darren Edmondson's side. The Bluebirds also hope to bring in a right-sided midfielder, following Malvin Kamara's decision to take up a trial offer in the USA. Kamara had been with Barrow on a non-contract basis.
