Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid earned a draw at rivals Barcelona despite having Roberto Carlos sent off in the first half. The Brazilian earned two yellow cards in quick succession - for disputing a penalty he had conceded and then for another argument with the referee. Ronaldinho converted the spot-kick to put Barca ahead but Ronaldo equalised when he chipped the ball home. Barcelona had the better of the second half and Henrik Larsson missed two good chances but they could not score again. The hosts had started the game well and Mark van Bommel and Samuel Eto'o both came close to giving them the lead before van Bommel went down under Carlos' challenge inside the area. Carlos was then dismissed after angry words with the referee after he was penalised for a foul on Larsson and Real keeper Iker Casillas then prevented Eto'o from doubling the lead. Real had been under pressure but they suddenly conjured an equaliser when Ronaldo ran on to Julio Baptista's pass and coolly lifted the ball over Victor Valdes for the equaliser. Larsson failed to make the most of his second half chances to seal the points, with Casillas saving one of his efforts, while at the other end Ronaldo was booked for diving inside the penalty area. The result leaves Barca 11 points clear of Real at the top of the Primera Liga with seven games remaining.
