The 20-year old has just returned to Loftus Road following a month on loan at the Blue Square Premier side, where he made four appearances.
The Us were keen to extend his loan spell but the player has opted to head back to the Championship side in a bid to impress new Hoops boss Luigi De Canio.
Patterson said: "He certainly looks to have a bright future and he has played his heart out for us. But we understand his decision and appreciate the honest way he had dealt with the situation.
"We hope it works out for him back at QPR. Stefan is a good lad and has been a credit to himself and his club."
