Ashton eager for Capello meeting
Brian Ashton hopes to hold tri-sport discussions with his new football counterpart Fabio Capello and England cricket coach Peter Moores in January. Ashton, reappointed England head coach, speaks Italian from his own playing days with Roma and Milan. "It would be nice to touch base with him when he comes over," he told SSB. "We're trying to put something in place for a tri-sport meeting. "If it happens presumably I could act as translator for Fabio." Ashton was only appointed England coach a year ago but managed to turn round a struggling team and get them to the World Cup final 10 months later. Former England National Cricket Academy director Peter Moores took over as England coach in April, following Duncan Fletcher's decision to step down after the team's disappointing World Cup performance. Capello was named England football manager in succession to Steve McClaren earlier this month and has vowed to improve his English sufficiently that within a month he will not need to use an interpreter. "I suppose I've got one up on Capello in that I speak English as well as Italian," Ashton added. "But he's got one up on me in that he probably earns more money than I do!"
