Aragones resignation turned down
The Spanish Soccer Federation has rejected coach Luis Aragones' offer to resign from his post. But the 68-year-old, who had been under pressure after last week's Euro 2008 qualifying defeat by Northern Ireland, is still considering his future. \"Luis came to the meeting with the idea that he was going to resign but the president has rejected it,\" said Federation spokesman Jorge Carretero. \"He has asked for two more days to make a final decision.\" Carretero added: Luis has our total confidence and our support but he has the last word.\" Aragones, a former player and then coach of Atletico Madrid, was appointed as national coach in 2004, succeeding Inaki Saez. After the 3-2 defeat by Northern Ireland, Spanish newspaper Marca polled 100,000 fans on its website, with nearly 80% calling for Aragones to resign.
