Allen: I expect QPR to spend heavily
Former QPR midfielder Martin Allen believes that Hoops boss Neil Warnock is absolutely desperate to take the West London side back to the Premier League and will be rewarded with the necessary financial backing from the club’s wealthy owners if they are promoted this summer. QPR are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship and on course to return to the top flight for the first time since 1996 as Warnock work his distinctive brand of coaching magic at Loftus Road. Tipped to restore the club to the high-flying days of Les Ferdinand, Trevor Sinclair and Darren Peacock, Allen now believes that Formula One tycoons Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal will open the purse strings to fund some big money purchases. Speaking exclusively to Sport.co.uk, Allen, who worked as a scout for QPR last year, cast his eye over the goings on in W12. “QPR have had some big investment, they’ve brought in some good players and a manager who knows the Championship. Neil Warnock is craving to work again in the Premier League; he can’t wait to get there with QPR so he can pit his wit against the biggest clubs in the country. “What is really interesting is that they have the financial backing to be able to recruit. If they do go up I expect QPR to spend heavily to ensure first that they don’t go down and second that they can challenge for honours. Their owners are absolutely minted!”
