Waddock proud of Aldershot stars
Aldershot manager Gary Waddock paid tribute to his all-conquering players after their 2-1 win over Salisbury in the wake of their Setanta Shield win. "I have to credit the players," Waddock told SSB. "We celebrated a cup final win on Thursday after extra time and penalties, and a day and half later they've come up trumps again. "It lasted 94 minutes today and it’s a credit to the players the way they've conducted themselves fitness-wise." Daniel Hylton's late header on Saturday took Aldershot them 17 points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier League table. They are now on the brink of a return to the Football League and travel to Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday before hosting Burton Albion on Saturday.

Waddock enjoys Shots good fortune
Aldershot manager Gary Waddock admitted his side rode their luck as they moved to within a point of promotion with a 1-0 home win over Burton Albion. Waddock told SSB: "We had a few slices of luck, but you need that to win anything. "The players have done a great job. The object was to get three points and we did that. "We now know that we only need a point to win the title and it's in our hands," he added.

Grant bullish about Shots chances
Aldershot striker John Grant believes the club can comfortably hold their own in the Football League. Grant scored 20 league goals as the Shots romped to the Blue Square Premier title by 15 points. He told SSB: "We'll do all right. We're young, athletic and we like to play football, so I think we'll do well. "I think I can score goals in League Two. I scored goals for Shrewsbury but I didn't get a run of games."

We have point to prove - Waddock
Aldershot manager Gary Waddock says both he and his players have points to prove as the club prepare for their return to the Football League. The Shots' squad includes several players who were previously released by league clubs, while Waddock had a short ill-fated spell in charge of QPR. Waddock told BBC southern Counties Radio: "All of us have had knockbacks. "I'm sure there are a few players who want to prove they are capable of playing at that level." He added: "Things didn't go according to plan for me as a manager . I've got one or two things to prove. There's a positive feel about the place."

Shots have no away fear - Harding
Aldershot midfielder Ben Harding has said his side still have no fear about playing away from home, despite not having won on the road since August. Since defeating Accrington Stanley on the opening day, the Shots have lost eight consecutive away games. Harding told Southern Counties Radio: "It's one of those things, it's not like we are fearful. "We know we have the ability in our squad, we've just got to take that on to the pitch."

Waddock admits lack of loan cash
Aldershot Town manager Gary Waddock says a lack of funds is preventing him from bringing in any loan players. The newly promoted outfit are lying in 14th place in League Two, but have managed just five wins from 15. Waddock told Southern Counties Radio: "It would be nice if I could, but I don't have the resources. "We've got a group of players that have done reasonably well since stepping up from the Conference, but sometimes you need to bring a loan player in or two." Waddock appreciates that the investment required for a squad to challenge for the top places in League Two will and should not appear overnight. "We can't get too carried away, we must remember what fantastic strides this club has taken in the last couple of years. "There has to be a base and foundation before we can go to the next level, we don't want this club to go back to the desperate years they've had."

Don't compare me to Bull - Ruiz
Aldershot goalkeeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz says he does not see himself as Nikki Bull's replacement. The 25-year-old Venezuelan has been ever-present since Shots veteran Bull's departure in the summer. He told BBC Surrey: "I wouldn't like and I wouldn't dare to fill the shoes of Nikki Bull or the things that he's done at the club. "I'm doing my own thing and enjoying actually playing because I waited a while," he added. Jaimez-Ruiz spent two seasons as an understudy to Bull, who made over 200 appearances for the Shots over a seven-year period before joining Brentford. He said: "It's difficult to wait and actually get the chance as a keeper to perform well. You always want to impress, but actually it's better to let things happen. "That's what I've been doing this season, not getting comfortable but just letting things happen and that's what I'm going to keep doing."
