Ainsworth sets top ten target
Gareth Ainsworth believes that Queens Park Rangers can build on their recent good form and finish the season challenging for a place in the Championship top ten. The Rangers midfielder admits inconsistency and an horrendous injury situation has prevented any kind of sustained challenge for a play-off place and Ainsworth admits it has been a strange season at Loftus Road. "It has been a funny season at QPR. All sorts has been going on and I think all in all we have to look at this season as ‘it has gone ok but we can do better’," Ainsworth exclusively told clubcall. "We know that and that’s its encouraging - we know that with a bit more stability and a settled team we can do better which has got to be promising for QPR. I still believe we can finish in the top half of the table and pushing for the top ten." A season of upheaval at Loftus Road looks set to end with Gary Waddock in caretaker control until the end of the season and Ainsworth is delighted with the way things have gone under the former reserve-team boss. One defeat in four and impressive showing in all four matches have underlined Waddock's credentials for the role on a full-time basis, and Ainsworth feels it show the spirit in the camp. “Gary has done a great job and the lads have responded well to him, it’s a credit to Gary and the lads who are here – which rubs off on the previous manager," the winger added. "To finish anywhere like we did last season with what has happened this season will be a real achievement. Hopefully we can better what we did and it is still a tall order. But we are playing well and finally the injury situation seems to be a normal one or two instead of seven or eight."
